This series of books is intended for intermediate readers in grades 4 through 8 and fosters a love of reading while exposing students to American history, the foundations of music and captures the interest of boys and girls.
Paul Kimpton pkimpton@mpae.net founded the company in 2004. Paul and his co-author Del Harnisch both believe in the arts and the need for the arts to continue to flourish through music assessment. MPAE is dedicated to bringing the latest in music assessment practice to music education. Their publication Scale Your Way To Music Assessment published by www.giamusic.com was designed to give teachers the tools to develop music assessments for their music programs. Both authors are current educators who implement the ideas they write about.
In 2008 Ann Kimpton akimpton@adventureswithmusic.net joined the company as co-author for the young readers series Adventures with Music Series. This exciting book series gives educators a new tool to help young people read about music and see first hand how music can be a part of a students life while still enjoying sports, the outdoors and numerous exciting experiences in life.
About the Authors
Paul Kimptonpkimpton@mpae.netA music educator for over 33 years, Paul Kimpton recently retired from his position as Director of Bands and Department Chairman at Hinsdale South High School (Darien, Illinois) where the music program was known for its innovation and high performance standards. Mr. Kimpton received his Bachelors and Masters in Music Education from the University of Illinois, an Administrator's Certificate from Western Illinois University and a Guidance/Counseling Certificate from Northern Illinois University.
Mr. Kimpton is the co-author of a best-selling music assessment book, Scale your way to Music Assessment. Along with his wife, Ann, he is the author of the Adventures in Music Series books, Starting Early and Dog Tags, published by GIA.Additionally, Mr. Kimpton has written articles for The Instrumentalist and the Illinois Music Educator magazines and is a valued clinician on music assessment throughout the United States and Canada. In January 2009, Mr. Kimpton was honored with the Outstanding Music Educator Award from the National Federation of High Schools.
Ann Kaczkowski Kimptonakimpton@adventureswithmusic.net is an Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and former Literacy Department Chair and teacher at Willowbrook High School in suburban Chicago. Mrs. Kimpton received her Bachelors in English and Journalism from the University of Illinois, a Masters in Reading and Administrator’s Certificate from Northern Illinois University, and has completed the coursework in Curriculum and Instruction for a doctoral degree. She has given numerous presentations and workshops at the local, state, and national level and is in constant demand as an expert in literacy.
An accomplished musician, Mrs. Kimpton played French horn in the University of Illinois Symphonic Bands under the direction of Dr. Harry Begian, and she is a color guard specialist for marching bands.You might also recognize her as the mother in the Yamaha Music band recruitment video, The Great Beginning.
Dr. Delwyn L. Harnisch received his doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana¬ Champaign in 1980. Currently, he is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education, College of Education and Human Sciences, University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). With a wealth of background and expertise in measurement, assessment, and program evaluation, Dr. Harnisch is currently the Senior Research Scientist for technology supported assessment program at UNL as part of the newly funded National Center for Information Technology in Education (NCITE). His twenty-five years of teaching and research experience has focused on integration of technology into the teaching and learning process. He has authored over 150 research articles, 5 books, and secured over 10 million dollars in grants and contracts. Many of his students are serving as faculty in leading research programs across the US as well as in Japan and China. He has received numerous national and international honors for his research programs and writings, including the most recent Excellence in Classroom Assessment Training Award in Teacher Education for Assessment Cohort Program at University of Nebraska Lincoln from the National Council of Measurement in Education (NCME)
